Yo minna! I’ve finished watching Shaman King a few days ago, so here’s the review. Before i start tho, i must say this is one of those animes you could watch over and over again and you’d never get bored.
Let me introduce you to the gang first:
The two huge guys standing in the back are Amidamaru (a samurai who lived about 600 years ago and he is Yoh’s spirit) and Bason (Ren’s spirit); and now from left to right:
- the green fellow is Lyzerg Diethel – all he thinks about is getting his revenge on Hao for killing his family;
- next to him is my favourite character Faust VIII – he beats the hell out of Yoh in the first preliminary round of the shaman fight using Manta as hostage; he wants to become shaman king in order to revive his wife Eliza. However, Anna who is a spirit medium brings Eliza’s soul back easily. In exchange, she asks Faust to help Yoh.
- moving on we have Horo Horo and the little thing standing beside him is his spirit, Kororo. He wants to become shaman king in order to plant a vast plain of coltsfoot so that the little people of Koro Pokkuru wouldn’t disappear.
- next we have Anna, Yoh’s fiancee and a spirit medium. She can bring back the spirits of the dead. She keeps pushing Yoh forward making him do a lot of harsh training and she is absolutelly certain that Yoh will be shaman king. She wants him to be the king of shamans so that… he could give her an easy life. 
- behind Anna we have Silva, one of the ten priests in charge of the fights for the shaman king tournament. Silva is also a descendant of Hao’s.
- next to Anna we have our main character, Asakura Yoh. Easy going and laid back, he can easily make friends and he is able to smile under any circumstances. The only time Yoh lost his way of being was when he fought Faust. He shares strong bonds with all his companions and he wants to become shaman king so that… he could have an easy life.
- next to Yoh, we have Tao Ren, my second favourite character (along with Yoh and Hao ). At first, the only thing he’s after is to defeat Yoh in order to satisfy his father’s wish. However, after spending time with Yoh he came to realise that in order to get over his hatred, he must defeat his father. When Ren is inprisoned by him, Bason asks Yoh for help so combining their powers, Ren is able to bring his father back to normal. At first he wanted to be shaman king in order to kill everybody due to his hatred towards people.
- above Yoh and Ren, we have Oyamada Manta flying over. Manta is Yoh’s first friend. He can also see spirits, but is not a shaman even though at the end, Mosuke’s (Amidamaru’s friend from 600 years ago) spirit is left inside his laptop and merges with him when Yoh is in trouble. Manta follows his friends everywhere they go because he had promissed Yoh he’d be watching.
- then we have Ryu (Bokuto no Ryu), the leader of a gang and the guy who’s always looking for “the best place”. After being possessed by Tokagero (who wanted to get revenge on Amidamaru for killing him 600 years ago; will become Ryu’s spirit) he decides to become shaman and is secretly trained by Yoh’s father. He wants to become shaman king in order to… make the world “the best place for everybody”.
- the pink haired girl is Tamao, an ascetic monk raised by the Asakura family. She’s inlove with Yoh even tho she obviously knows about Anna.
- last but not least, we have the mighty Chocolove! He’s the last to join the gang; he always makes jokes that get Ren and Horo Horo and even Anna sometimes annoyed. He wants to be shaman king in order to bring the wind of laughter over the world.
Ok now, they are all fighting against Asakura Hao, Yoh’s twin brother. Sort of. Hao actually lived 1000 years ago and he wanted to wipe out all humans in order to create a world of shamans. Extremely powerful and able to manipulate nature, he seems to be invincible. Along the way he keeps telling Yoh to get stronger because he’d be getting his other half of the body back and… he needed a strong half.
The anime follows the adevntures Yoh and his friends go through on their way to become shaman king and until the final battle with Hao. All characters get to tell their stories in order to explain their dreams and the reasons they want to become shaman king.
It’s funny, it’s thrilling, it’s sad at times… It gives what every anime fan wants. If you haven’t seen Shaman King yet, stop everything you’re doing and start watching!
